Introducing new Relay FM T-shirts and Stickers

We're happy to announce new t-shirts and stickers are now for sale over on our Merch Store:

Both shirts are printed on TeeSpring's Premium shirt in a rather fetching gray. Sizing information can be seen on the individual product pages.

We are keeping the old t-shirts on the store until stock is depleted. They've been marked down, so if you want one of that design, act quickly!

In addition to the new shirts, we have a sticker using the art that Myke got tattooed on his arm.

We don't recommend you apply these to your arms. That's going to sting when you take it off.

Both items are in stock today and will ship starting tomorrow, September 16.

Introducing Free Agents

Last year at WWDC, I had tea with Myke, Jason Snell and David Sparks.

At the time, I was on the fence about leaving my job to work on Relay FM full-time. It made sense on paper, but I was nervous about taking my fate into my own hands.

All three of them were already independent, and were very open about the challenges and rewards that working for yourself brings. (I think they'll admit there was a little peer pressure going on too, but that's beside the point.)

Today, Jason and David are launching a new fortnightly podcast named Free Agents. It's all about work, and while they are both self-employed, the topics on Free Agents are applicable to all sorts of people.

Here are some topics on the list:

  • Hiring and firing
  • Email management
  • Passion projects vs. paying the bills

Everything old is new again

Today is a day of reflection for Stephen and myself at Relay FM.

First, we are bringing an old show back to life. Ungeniused was the first show we ever worked on together way back in 2011, and we've decided to bring it back for another season.

On each episode of Ungeniused we discuss a weird and wonderful Wikipedia article. We do all the research, so you don't have to! The first episode focuses on Action Park, probably the most dangerous water park in US history.

We have some fun episodes lined up to, that I think you're really going to enjoy them. Ungeniused will teach you some new, interesting (and probably useless information) that you'll be glad to know.

Additionally, we are now hosting the back catalogues of three shows that pre-dated Relay FM. Recently, some of our retired 5by5 shows were taken down from the site, but we decided that we didn't want them to disappear.

So we now have the back catalogues of Bionic, CMD+Space, and The Prompt on Relay FM, so you can enjoy some of the shows that pre-date some of your favorites. There's some really great stuff in there that's fun to go back and listen to.

Announcing Presentable, with Jeffrey Veen

Today we are really excited to premiere a new show on Relay FM. Presentable is a new project from Jeffrey Veen, focusing on the world of design. As Jeff himself puts it:

The Presentable Podcast focuses on how we design and build the products that are shaping our digital future. We'll track the tools, trends, and methods being used by teams from the biggest companies and latest startups.

We are so excited to have Jeff as the newest addition to the fantastic roster of hosts here at Relay FM. His experience in the design world is second-to-none, and we are all so excited to see where Presentable will go.

Jeff sent us a pilot for the show (which has been published as Episode 0 in the Presentable feed) and we instantly knew we wanted it to become a part of our network.

Material at Google I/O 2016

This week Google I/O rolled in to California, and you can bet Relay FM has got all the coverage you need.

Your intrepid Googlers from the Material Podcast were not only on hand to break down the announcments, but also give an account of actually being in the audience, as both Yasmine and Russell were there in the sun!

This week's episode of Material was even recorded inside of The Google Plex itself!
