Inquisitive: Behind the App

Today, I posted the first episode of a special series of Inquisitive, called 'Behind the App'. This first episode is all about the history of the App Store.

'Behind the App' marks a total change for Inquisitive. This series is going to be all about what it takes to build Apps for the iPhone, and how the App Store has totally changed the software industry. But I have lots of idea for other series' that I would like to do, with totally different topics.

I've been working on this every day since November, and it's been a massive undertaking. This kind of show is way different to anything I've made before. The new format for this series focuses more on storytelling. I interviewed a bunch of awesome people to help me get a sense for how I was going to cover this, and I spent a tonne of time going through all of these interviews, chopping them up in to interesting clips, then researching and writing scripts to tie the episodes together.

As of today, I have three episodes recorded of the series. I expect it to run for maybe 10-15 episodes, but I'm going to see how that fares as I continue to plough through.

Making these shows has been an incredible amount of work, but I am so proud of them. It's totally different in style and production to anything I have made before, and I am learning new skills as I progress. I think I'm getting better at it every day too.

I genuinely believe that my last five years in podcasting has taught me all of the base skills that I needed to do this, and 'Behind the App' is going to teach me what I need to know for the next five years.

But I need a favour from you; please share this episode with your friends. For me to be able to continue to create this show, I need it to be a success. I believe that it can be, but I need it to be seen by as many people as possible to do so. I want 'Behind the App' to be just the first series I do in this style, and if enough people hear this, I think I could continue making shows like this for a long time to come. You could also subscribe to the show in iTunes and leave a review too, that always helps.

I really welcome any feedback that you have for me about this episode, you can reach me on Twitter or by email, if you'd like.

I want to thank everyone that has helped make this show possible, and has given their time and effort. But most importantly, thank you for tuning in.

I am so excited for where this may lead.

Myke.

The Pen Addict Podcast: Live!

Even after three years, and nearly 150 episodes of The Pen Addict, Brad Dowdy and I have never met in person. Not once. This is the year we want it to change. You can help me get to the 2015 Atlanta Pen Show to record a special live episode of The Pen Addict Podcast!

We are launching a Kickstarter campaign today to make this happen and we really hope you can be a part of it.

We have a couple of reward levels that you can check out on the Kickstarter page.

The Pen Addict has a great commuity built around it and this project will be another great way for us to make something happen together, I really hope you can help out.

Update: After just 10 hours, we've hit out goal! There are still lots of Nock cases left, though! We're excited to get to make this awesome video for everyone. More soon!

Welcome to Rocket

We are excited to announce today that Relay FM is going to be the home of a brand new show named Rocket.

Rocket is hosted by Brianna Wu, Christina Warren and Simone De Rochefort and will feature the best discussion in tech, gaming, culture and so much more.

Once you listen to episode one, you'll hear just how awesome these three women are as the conversation spans numerous topics including 3D-printed cars, the Ant Man trailer and being proposed to over social media.

We are so thrilled and honored that Rocket is going to be a part of the network. It's kicking off what's going to be a great year for Relay FM.

141 episodes

This morning, with Virtual #20, we've published 141 episodes under the Relay FM banner.

It's hard to believe that we launched just 20 weeks ago.

Our first two quarters were full of surprises. In that short time, we were heavily featured in the iTunes Store and most third-party apps. We added a handful of new shows, shipped countless stickers and have gotten to know so many new people online. Oh, and Myke quit his job.

Without our listeners, Relay FM wouldn't be the success it is today. We'd like to thank you for downloading the shows, reviewing them in iTunes, sharing them with friends and being all-around awesome.

In the coming weeks and months, we'll be unveiling some new projects, with new people. We believe a diversity in content and hosts is needed in podcasting, and we have some really great things to share soon.

Until then, here's to 2015.

The Relay FM store is open for business

To be honest, we thought about calling our store the Merch Table, after the spot bands sell shirts during concerts, but we're just not that cool.

Starting today, you can order Relay FM stickers and shirts.

We're thrilled to be working with Nock Co on the logistics end of this. The shirts are printed in Atlanta, GA, and all of the merchandise is being shipped from their headquarters.

We hope you enjoy the merchandise. We have plans for more; if there's something you'd like to see in the store, let us know!

Please note that orders placed this week will ship out after Thanksgiving.
