Announcing RelayCon: WWDC 2016

On June 13 at 6 PM we will be hosting an event at 111 Minna Street in San Francisco. Come grab a drink at the bar and hang out before a live panel starts covering that morning's news. Hosts from Connected will be joined by Serenity Caldwell and Jason Snell.

FAQs

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?
Yes. The event will include an open bar, and as such, is ages 21 and up. You will be required to show an ID to enter.

Will I be able to touch Myke's beard?
No. Well, maybe. (Did we mention there's an open bar?)

What if I can't make it?
While that question makes us sad, we will be releasing the audio of the panel as that week's Connected episode. But you can't touch Myke's beard through your podcast player.

Introducing Disruption

We were so happy to welcome Isometric to Relay FM last year, and it's been amazing to watch the show grow and evolve.

And now, Brianna, Mikah, Steve and Georgia are ready to disrupt us all. We're so excited to see what this rag-tag group is going to do with their new show. They have some really fun ideas, and are ready to do something different.

But don't just take it from us; here's what Mikah has to say about their new show, Disruption:

101 episodes: That’s what it took to make Georgia Dow, Steve Lubitz, Brianna Wu, and new host Mikah Sargent rage quit Isometric. Luckily the crew had a few extra coins, so they’re starting a new show.

Disruption, as the new show is appropriately named, is a weekly show filled with equal parts laughter and absurdity. Join psychotherapist Georgia Dow, game-enthusiast Steve Lubitz, journalist Mikah Sargent and game-developer Brianna Wu, as they tackle topics in tech, gaming, and the surrounding culture.

The show will not only feature timely discussions and Isometric-style hijinks, but a new call-in segment. Leave a question, a thought, a joke, or a topic of discussion at (508) 418-3532.

A word of warning: Listen at your own risk!

We really hope you enjoy Disruption, don't forget to subscribe to the show, and spread the word!

Relay FM by the numbers

Listener and apparent math wizard Lukas has put together some amazing charts that show off some interesting data about Relay shows:

As you can see, Under the Radar and Clockwise are very consistent as far as episode length, which makes a lot of sense as their duration is built in to the format. Other shows see larger spreads, with Reconcilable Differences and Cortex being the shows with the longest runtimes.

Here's Lukas:

Relay FM spans 22 shows and a combined runtime of over 53 days spread across 1091 episodes since 2014.

In 2015, there were 670 episodes published, and based on the average release frequencies, there will probably be 888 episodes in 2016. We’re currently about 15% of the way there at 135 episodes:

RelayCon Atlanta: The Pen Addict Live 2016

One of my very favourite moments of 2015 was the Atlanta Pen Show. It was so fantastic to be there, hanging out with everyone and helping out at the Nock Co table. I also got to finally meet Brad for the first time to record episode #150 of The Pen Addict in person.

Last year we had a Kickstarter to help make that happen, and because of this we were able to shoot an awesome video version of the live recording. We want to be able to do this again, so we're launching a new Kickstarter campaign to help fund the newly titled, 'RelayCon Atlanta: The Pen Addict Live 2016'.

Last year we had a custom Nock Co pen case as a perk (as well as the live show video), but Brad has gone above and beyond this year.

We are going to be making some amazing Pen Addict notebooks that feature the fantastic paper that you'll find in Nock Co's other paper products. They have a beautiful orange cover and a sweet embossed Pen Addict Logo. I cannot wait to get my hand on some of these bad boys myself!

To be able to recreate and surpass the amazing time and show we were able to put together last year, we do need your help. It would mean the world to me and Brad if you're able to back this Kickstarter campaign to help us put this together. We promise it will be worth it.

One last thing, the idea of 'RelayCon' is something Stephen and I have been kicking about a lot recently. We're looking to do more live events under this banner, in different locations in the near future.

Introducing Remaster and Canvas

Today, we are introducing two new podcasts on Relay FM.

Remaster

Ever since we interviewed Shahid Ahmad on our first gaming show Directional, Federico and I dreamed of one day getting to work with him.

Today, we're proud to announce Shahid is joining Relay FM to help us launch a new podcast named Remaster.

We have decided that we are going to end Virtual so we can put all of our efforts in to this new show. Our love for gaming, coupled with Shahid's knowledge of the industry is going to lead to something awesome.

(Virtual members, your membership has been moved to Remaster.)

In 1985 Shahid released a game called Chimera), this started a long and varied career for him in video games, including a decade-long stint at Sony PlayStation, where he was in charge of signing deals for games like Nuclear Throne and No Man's Sky.

Now Shahid is going indie again to continue to pursue his dream of making games. And this is where Remaster begins. We want to talk about the games and experiences we love, whilst looking at what it takes to actually make games. This is what you'll get from us every fortnight. We think you're really going to enjoy it.

Canvas

With the iPad Pro, more and more people are considering switching their tasks to iOS, but it requires some new thinking to recreate the workflows you're used to having at your fingertips.

This is something Federico Viticci and Fraser Speirs know all too well. These lovable Europeans have both famously made the switch to using iPads as their main computers, and have both learned an awful lot along the way.

And now they want to share this knowledge with you. Canvas is a new fortnightly podcast that will help you tackle common tasks with iOS, to help you dive deeper in to a more portable working set up. Fraser and Federico will give you examples of apps, systems and workflows that they use to get their work done.

Relay FM members have gotten a preview of the first episode already, but now it's available to everyone, and we think you're going to love it.
